I have cute little business cards I hand out on occasion, when I remember I’m supposed to ‘network.’ The cards say, “Actress/Comedienne/Writerette.”

This can perplex people. Some actually assume I don’t realize I made up the word “writerette.”

This stems from a blog I wrote long ago in support of Hilary Clinton satirically calling for a show of Female Chauvinism, where you impose the idea that all female/feminine things are fundamentally superior. This was before Sarah Palin was a thing.

When I studied Theatre (yes, with a “-re”!) I always harbored a quiet resentment we all were supposed to identify as “actors” because we were “serious.” I mean, wouldn’t a true show of strength be convincing our male counterparts to willingly call themselves actresses? I seem to be alone in this opinion.

I reject the notion that “feminized” things are of an inherent lesser value. Yes, women have been treated as lesser, forever, but it’s not because of the cutesy names. Don’t confuse correlation with causation.

So I willingly call myself all the lady titles, because it feels subversively amusing. You may also refer to me as:

mistress (or alternatively “masteress” perhaps?)
duchess
empress
kingette
madamoiselle

Because I like to honor the journey, I am including Destiny’s Child on at least half this list. And of that half, nearly half will be songs consisting of original 4 members, who I saw open for TLC’s “Fanmail” tour in 1999. I saw Beyonce up close back then, and I hate to report she totally looked hot back then as today.
